I have to open Windows Task Manager and kill the process. Not only that, PSPP X3 refuses to close - I can click on the "X" button, use the File menu, ALT+F4, try to close it from the Windows Taskbar, nothing works. All else is completely grayed out, inaccessible, dead. The only exceptions are Print, Open, Acquire, and some functions from the Palettes drop-down menu, such as Histogram. All menus, all toolbars and buttons, everything. Afterwards, nearly ALL controls in the program become inoperant. I have to cancel the operation and close the H/S/L window. The "Preview on picture" checkbox is grayed out, and so is the "OK" button. No matter what I do with the controls, the picture doesn't change. Then I open Hue/Saturation/Lightness, and that's where it starts. Then I open Brightness/Contrast and correct them. The picture was taken at 10 megapixels and is much larger than the screen, so I zoom it out with the Zoom More button for it to fit. I open the picture, and at first nothing unusual happens. A trivial job with PSPP X3, but one particular picture is making the program hang. I appreciate the help and encouragement, but hopefully she can load pspp on the Windows box at her internship and I can abandon this excursion.A friend who doesn't know how to use graphics software and got some below-average quality pictures taken with a digital camera sent me some of them, for me to improve color, contrast, etc. Sorry i don't own a mac to test with and have zero experience with pspp but i don't see why we shouldn't be able to get everything working for you with googles help. I can't even get Knoppix to boot let alone set the nomodeset option. init: line 276: /bin/mount: Input/output error I got this error after the Mac started to boot from the Knoppix disk: Well this time I never made it to the graphics error. What is the graphics error? try booting with nomodeset option. She never mentioned this at the beginning of this adventure. So I think that is the route I am going to take. She actually has a Windows computer at her internship that they will allow her to install it on. But just now I'm finding out more about her true needs to use the program and what options are available to her. I know, that's a bit over the top just to run one program. No she loves her Mac, but I have been able to get it to run on my Windows machine and thought about getting her a Windows machine just to run the program. Worst case scenario is to install windows in a vm on her mac, but i really don't see that being necessary never ever ever suggest she'd be better off with a windows laptop unless you hate her I could always set up a dual boot with Linux, but she is away at college and I wouldn't be able to talk her through that, she's a bit, shall we say "technologically challenged" I even tried to pull a fast one om my daughter and told here she should just by a Windows machine. So I just thought I would reach out in the pure luck of it that someone might have some knowledge about it. If I'm understanding the site correctly these installers are created with MacPorts, and should contain everything needed to run the program. If your feeling adventurous, here is the link to the page where the downloads are. I'm just trying to get the compiled OS X version to work as simply as the Windows version did. So bugs and such might not be addressed in a very timely manner. The site I referenced has various versions ready to download and install, but paid OS's are low on their priority list for attention. I am not trying to build the program from scratch, so I'm not sure what, if any ancillary programs are needed. She has a MAC and would like to be able to use it on that computer, but she doesn't know of anyone who has it running on a MAC to get guidance from, so. My daughter has used the program before but only on a Windows machine. It seems my kids always rope me into these kinds of projects. Thanks for the reply, but I'm kinda just barely treading water on this.
